Biography
Currently, Dr. Ambika Prasad Patra is working as Additional Professor and Head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology
Department at Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), an Institute of National
Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Government of India at Pondicherry, India.
Dr. Patra received his MD in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology from Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Medical
College and Hospital under Government of Odisha in 2007. He also received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery
(MBBS) degree from the same institution at Berhampur, Ganjam, Odisha in 1997. In addition, he has received his
Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) for Hospital Administration from Pondicherry University under
Government of India, in 2015. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) since 2018.
Dr. Patra is a highly accomplished and experienced forensic pathologist, toxicologist, and legal medicine expert. In
addition, he has undertaken some Administrative posts at JIPMER like Deputy Medical Superintendent, Deputy
Controller of Examinations, Warden, etc.
Dr. Patra is also the Author of the Textbook series ‘Medical Jurisprudence and Clinical Forensic Medicine’ published by
the Taylor and Francis, CRC Press, London. He has published over 60 papers in peer-reviewed journals with 280
Citations, 10 h-index and 270 Research Interest Score. He has over 150 peer review records for 22 PubMed indexed
Journals of International repute.
Dr. Patra is a recipient of several awards and honours, including the Sentinel of Science–2016 Award for ‘Top 10
Reviewers in Medicine’ by the Publons Academy of Clarivate Web of Science and the Best Editor of Indian Toxicology
Medical Journals in 2016 for his contribution as the Editor of the Indian Society of Toxicology. He is also the editorial
board member and guest editor for 16 national and international indexed Journals.
Dr. Patra is highly respected in his field and is a Nominated legal medicine expert for the Madras High Court, Madurai
Bench, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Cochin and Chennai.
Dr. Patra is an active member of several professional organizations of International repute. He is a member of Faculty
of Forensic and Legal Medicine (FFFLM) of the Royal College of Physicians, London, UK. He is also a referee member of
the International Academy of Legal Medicine (IALM), Lausanne, Switzerland. He is a member and ex-officio of the Indian
Society of Toxicology and the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine.
Dr. Patra is also a regular speaker at National and International forums with more than 100 scientific presentations and
numerous plenary lectures in his credit. He is a dynamic and engaging speaker who is able to communicate complex
medical and scientific concepts in a clear and concise way. He has chairperson and moderator for many professional
panel discussions. He is an excellent facilitator and is able to lead discussions and workshops effectively.
Dr. Patra's areas of expertise encompass legal medicine, biomedical ethics, toxicology, clinical forensic medicine,
humanitarian forensics, forensic pathology, and traffic medicine. He is a valuable asset to any conference and would
be an excellent speaker on a variety of topics related to his field
